When Brooks Stevens in 1964 started to produce vintage car replicas inspired by the Mercedes SSK and based on modern US technology, the demand for this type of cars exploded.
The Series III was introduced in 1975 and profited from numerous improvements and evolutions according to the new homologation standards. The new chassis was developed by Excalibur and the car received a 7,500cc Chevrolet Mk IV big-block V8 engine developing 215 HP.
The history of this particular Phaeton SS from 1979 is known and documented from the end of the 90s. During several years a German engineer and Mercedes collector owned this car and maintained it in workmanlike manner. When he bought the car in 2002 it had already been rebuilt to new condition (body, paintwork, soft- and hard-top) and the mechanics were overhauled. Since 2007 the car is with the current owner on the French Riviera.
The car is in excellent overall condition. The bodywork presents well and the chromes are in good condition. All the mechanics have been checked recently and are in excellent working order. The beige leather interior present very well and only a minor default in the carpet was remarked behind the gear shift. The 3 tops: soft-top, hard-top and tonneau-cover are in excellent condition.
There are many reasons to drive an Excalibur today, it’s the only handmade luxury car produced in the USA, but it’s also a make that has depreciated less over time than a Mercedes Benz, Cadillac or Lincoln. And it is just 20 times cheaper and far more reliable than a pure original Mercedes SSK. In any case this car is the perfect eye-catcher wherever you drive and the perfect accompany in warm summer nights. This beautiful Excalibur is available with a French road registration on the French Riviera.
